RCHS Linebacker Brackett Talks Football

Brackett named Recently Named Region 4 "Linebacker of Year"

Evensville, TN -- Austin Brackett, who will be senior in 2021-21, was named "Linebacker of the Year" for the 202-21 football season for 5A Region 4 District for RCHS Eagles., who finished 10-2 on the season. Brackett has a very productive year for the Eagle, averaging 8.9 tackles per game for the season. Austin is son of Wiley and Ashlee Brackett. Austin played football, basketball and baseball in High School. Austin answered a few questions about his time at Rhea County High School as student athlete.


How long have you been playing football, including youth football?

I have always played football, baseball, and basketball ever since I was little.

How exciting was winning "linebacker of the year"?

Winning "Linebacker of the Year" was very exciting and made me extremely happy all my hard work paid off.

What was your favorite game this year?

My favorite game this year and overall was the Carter game.

What are the key characteristics needed to play linebacker?

The key characteristics needed to play linebacker in my opinion is being tough and knowing how to read the offense.

What is your favorite subject in school?

My favorite subject in school is American History.

Do you have any role models in college or professional football?

One role model I have in professional sports is Ray Lewis. He was one of the greatest linebackers to ever play.

What is your favvorite sport to play and why? What is your favorite sport to watch.

What are your hobbies and interest off the field?

Off the field I like to hang out with my friends and go out on the lake.

How has having a coach for a dad affected your development as a player?

Having a dad as a coach has made a huge impact on my development as a player. My dad has always spent countless hours working with me on sports and making me not just a better player but person as well.

What advice do you have for the freshman class of football players coming to high school next year?

My advice for the freshman class is to work hard everyday and never take anything for granted.

Talk about the pro and con of playing multiple sports in school year?

Playing multiple sports has so many pros to it. It keeps you in shape, teaches you how to push through tough times, and makes you an overall better athlete. There are really no cons to it if you like to work hard.

If you could not play linebacker, what other position would you play?

If I couldn’t play linebacker I would want to play defensive line.
