October 5, 1946 ~ December 19, 2025

William “Bill” Ray Houston, age 79, of Dayton, Tennessee, passed away at his home on December 19, 2025. Born on October 5, 1946, in Dayton, TN, he was the adored son of the late Walter Ray and Pearl Houston.
Although Bill held various jobs throughout his life, his ambition and determination never wavered. These qualities led him to create and run his at-home business, B & B Filters, for 30 years, which he ran alongside his wife and soulmate, Barbara Jean Houston, whom he married on December 11, 1987. A devoted Christian and faithful member of Salem Baptist Church in Dayton, TN, Bill lived his life guided by his beliefs. That same dedication carried over into his role as a father and grandfather. Bill was a provider and someone his family could always depend on. He took great pride in ensuring those he loved never went without.
To those who knew him, Bill was a devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who deeply enjoyed his family and the simple pleasures of life. His laugh was unmistakable—unique and unforgettable to anyone who heard it—and while he had a wild side, it was one he kept mostly contained. He was known as the cook of the family and was often the one preparing food for family events, bringing everyone together. Bill always had music from the 1960s playing in the background, eagerly looked forward to football season, enjoyed learning more about history, and found peace in nature. On walks with loved ones, it was not uncommon for him to pause and point out the different trees and birds around him, sharing both his knowledge and appreciation for the world he dearly loved.
Bill leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his three siblings, Jack (Ewa) Houston, John (Arlene) Houston, and Helen (Jack) Arnold; his five wonderful children, Amy Smith, Keith (Maria) Smith, Jennifer (John) Marsh, Andrew Holland, and Wendy Maynor; his four beloved grandchildren, Ryan (MeLynn) Berkley, Alyssa (Joey) Waire, Hope (Brody) Lightfoot, and Aedan Marsh; and many treasured great-grandchildren, all of whom will now carry forward the warmth, humor, and strength that defined his life.
Services will be held at the Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home on December 30, 2025 at 2 with Pastor Barry Walls officiating. The family will receive friends from 12-2 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pierce Cemetery
