Thomas Nevon Smith Sr., 71, of Bakewell, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2024, at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was born on October 3, 1953, and was a lifelong resident of Bakewell. Thomas was of the Christian faith. He worked for Norpro in Soddy-Daisy for 42 years.
Thomas was a devoted minister of all and a co-founder of All About God’s Ministry, where he touched countless lives with his faith and compassion. He had a deep love for people and was known as a great friend to everyone he met. His warmth and kindness were matched only by his love of cooking and singing, which brought joy to many. A dedicated Bible quiz coach, Thomas inspired young minds with his passion for scripture and his teaching.
A loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Thomas's family was the center of his world. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Angela Carol Ray Smith; his parents, Thomas and Sallie Smith; brothers Ronnie and Mark Smith; and step-grandson, Nehemiah Hewlett.
He is survived by his sons, Thomas Nevon Smith Jr. of East Ridge, TN, and Michael Pitts of Morristown, TN; stepson, Michael Johnson of Ohio; and stepdaughter, Mandy (Michael) Hewlett of Florida. Thomas also leaves behind his sisters, Teresa Ogilvie of Columbia, TN, Tara Blue of Soddy Daisy, TN, and LaWanna (James) Willis of Soddy Daisy, TN; a great aunt, Oralee Moore; as well as four grandchildren: Thomas Smith III, Tyler Smith, Asia (Jabari) Mackey, and Noah Christian Kobe Johnson; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Pleasant Hill AME Zion Church, with Minister Chaplain Mitchel Tulloss eulogist. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
