Coach Mathis and Staff Are Excited for Spring City Softball

Spring City, Tennessee

Randy Mathis and his coaching staff are exccited about the season. Lady Bulldogs have started with a blowout win in first game 13-2 over McMinn and then edged Bledsoe 1-0 in a pitching battle. Ella Mullins pitched a 1 hit shutout for the Lady Bulldogs andAlyssa Johnson knocked in winning run. Lady Bulldogs will next play at home in varsity only match vs Sweetwater. Start time is 6 pm is the sun cooperates.

For Randy Mathis, this is his 12th year as head coach of SCMS softball.

Randy gave a few insights to this year's team.

"Key players are my 3 returning starters (Maysa Hampton, Ella Mullins and Abbagayle Buffenbarger). Sixth grader Talaysia Smith is as good as any player that I have seen at her age and I look to see her doing a phenomenal job for us at catcher. Newcomers Jaelyn Lawson, Kamari Stampe and Karley Smith will be in the mix as well."

"For teams to watch, I think this year Sweetwater,Meigs and Ole Coach G down at Rhea has some great talent. Those teams are always well coached and bring their A Game."

"The strength of the team is our pitching and catching. We have 2 of the best ones in our  conference with Maysa Hampton and Ella Mullins." 

Craig Mullins and Jamie will be assisting Randy this year.

"This team has grown a lot in the last 2 weeks of practice and are super fun to coach and fun to watch. I'm excited for the future of Rhea County High School Softball. Between Spring City and Rhea Middle, we are gonna have great talent for years to come and that's what gets me excited!  Can't wait to see what these girls can do."
