Latron "Tank" Alloway Leads Spring City to Win over Rhea Middle to open the season
August 20, 2020
Evensville, TN -- Spring City won 42-12 over county rival Rhea Middle School on Thursday, August 20, 2020 in a game played at Rhea Middle School. Latron "Tank" Alloway lead the way with 6 touchdowns on the night. Rhea Middle struck suddenly and early as Makye Hyatte fumbled the kickoff, but recovered and raced down the sidelines for an 85 yard touchdown with only 20 seconds gone in the game. Latron Alloway and the Bulldogs responded with two touchdowns to put Spring City up 14-6 at the end of the first quarter. Kaden Knox pulled Rhea Middle within 14-12 with a 56 yard touchdown run. Bulldogs and Alloway responded with another touchdown and two point conversion to take 22-12 lead with just 45 seconds left until halftime and then the Bulldogs were beneficiary of a late fumble with 2.6 seconds left until halftime, when Alloway picked up losse ball to set-up SCMS with one chance for a score and that was all that was needed as "Tank" outraced the Eagle defenders to the corner and raced down the sideline for the late touchdown that gave Bulldogs the 28-12 lead going into half.
Bulldogs received the kickoff and moved the ball downfield until a fumble squirted out of backfield and was picked up by Braden Knox for the Eagles. Bulldogs used a tremendous defensive rush to stymie the Eagle offense and force a punt. Bulldogs setup shop inside the Rhea Middle 25 yard line and it took around 4 plays before Alloway found the end zone with 45 seconds left in the thrid quarter. Alloway added the two point conversion for the 36-12 lead. Alloway added a late touchdown with 4:35 left in game to put the final margin at 42-12. With the win, the Bulldogs claimed the "Ridge to River Classic" trophy that Rhea Middle had won with win in the last "Ridge to Rive Classic".
Both coaches indicated a lack of experience for their teams and a shortened preperation time due to the COVID-19 restrictions since last March. Spring City came into game with no starting offensive linemen back and Rhea Middle was also hit hard by graduation, losing some very talented offensive and defensive players from last year's team. But one player the Bulldogs had back was Latron Alloway the very explosive running back and linebacker. Alloway had six touchdowns on the night.
Both coaches praised the play of their players, who showed promise for the upcoming season and played until final whistle. With opening game out of the way, both teams must now focus on the rest of the season.
