SCMS Wins On the Road vs Jefferson Middle

Bulldogs Win 36-19 at Oak Ridge; Continue on Raod This Week

Oak Ridge, TN -- On Thursday 9/5/24, the Bulldogs of Spring City traveled to Oak Ridge to play the Jefferson Middle School Eagles. Bulldogs received the opening kickoff and shortly thereafter quarterback E. J. Casteneda weaved through defeners on his way to the opening drive 38-yard touchdown to give Spring City the early 6-0 lead after 2-point conversion was unsuccessful.

Bulldogs had a quarterback sack to stop the Eagles on their opening drive and forced a turnover on downs at the Spring City 35. This time it was the familiar combination of Casteneda to Campbell that produced the second Bulldog touchdown of the night. The pass covered 64 yards and with the conversion not successful, score remained 12-0. After Jefferson began their next drive on their 40, the managed to move the ball downfield to inside the Bulldog 20, but bad snap over the head of the quarterback, a personal foul penalty and a nice hit by Diego Bravo to force a quarter hurry, the Bulldogs turned over Jefferson on Bulldog 20.

In their third drive, it was a combination of Casteneda and Campbell to move the ball downfield for the 3rd touchdown of the game for the Bulldogs. Conversion attempt was unsuccessful and Bulldogs led 18-0 in 2nd quarter. Jefferson Middle began their next drive at the Bulldog 48 and used a long pass and a long run to move down for a 1-yard toucdown. Conversion was not good and half ended 18-6.

On Eagles' first drive of second half Bulldogs forced a fumble and quickly scored on a E.J. Casteneda touchdown run of 47 yards for 24-6 lead. After forcing a short punt the Bulldogs used the legs of Harlan Thomas to move down the field and into endzone to complete the 25 yard drive. Bulldogs lead stayed at 30-6 after unsuccessful 2-point conversion. Mylez Ganskow had several good runs, including the last for the final Bulldogs touchdown from 25 yards out for the 36-6 lead that stayed 36-6 after conversion attempt.

Jefferson Middle scored two last quarter touchdowns to cut into the final margin for the Bulldogs with 36-19 final score.

Head Coach Anthony Loden said, "E.J. Casteneda has really stepped up his play and is becoming the player we always thought he could be. I am impressed this year how all the players are stepping up and playing as a team."
