Bulldogs Come Just Short against Jefferson

Spring City, TN -- Bulldogs kicked off to begin the game an defense held and Bulldogs marched downt he field with big run by Ethan Cunningham. Kaiden Rector had the short touchdown run and Zane Walker punched in the 2 point conersion to give Bulldogs the 8-0 lead. The lead was short lived as Jefferson came back with quick touchdown to drop defecit to 8-6. 2 point conversion tied the score 8-8 with 1:36 left in first quarter.
Ethan Cunningham had nice return on kickoff to the 44 yard line of Jefferson. Bulldogs continued to move the ball down the field and Tyler Lee put the rock in the end zone on short run. Noah Pilkington added the 2 point conversion to put Spring City up 16-8 early in second quarter(6:53).
Jefferson reccovered the on-side kickoff and then marched 45 yards for another quick touchdown and then Ian Tilley made the stop to deny the 2 point conversion and keep Bulldogs in lead 16-14 with 5:02 left in 2nd quarter.
Spring City's Ethan Cunningham returned the kickoff to the 32 yard line and then made the 26 yard run up the middle to build on the Eagles lead and then he added the 2 point conversion for the 24-14 lead for Sring City, with
Kaiden Rector, Tyler Lee and Ethan Cunningham had 1 td each. Ethan Cunningham, Zane Walker and Noah Pilkington each had a 2 pt conversion. Regretfully this would end the Bulldogs scoring for the night. Jefferson took the kickoff and marched 55 yards in two plays for their third touchdown of the game and added 2 point conversion to cut the lead to 24-22.
On the kick-off the Bulldogs almost mad the stop at the 35, but runner slipped through to gain 20 more yard into Bulldog territory. From the 45 yard line, Jefferson found a receiver deep for the touchdown. Bulldogs stopped the 2 point attempt to keep within striking distance at 28-24 with 25 seconds left on first half clock.
In the second half, the Bulldogs could never get anything going offensively but did have late drive that ran out of time. They did good job of keeping Jefferson Middle out of the endzone, but ended up with an opening 28-24 loss in the game.
After the game, head coach Anthony Loden said, "I am super proud of this team. We battled to the end."
"We need to get more physical on the outside and we will go back and work on that next week."
"We knew Jefferson Middle was bringing a good team in here. Can't believe that we let a Wing T team come in her and beat us."
On August 12th, the Bulldogs host Lenior City at 7 pm and will look to get on track for the season with a win.
