Ruth Ellen Ross Obituary

September 23, 1946 - November 16, 2024

Ruth Ellen Ross passed from life through death to gloriously abundant life on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from complications due to Parkinson’s Disease.

She leaves behind two sisters, Mary (Walter) and Rebekah; sister-in-law, Cathy; three nephews, Peter (Kim), Joshua (April), and Samuel; and three nieces, Hannah (David), Holly (Josh) and Annie; and very special friends, Alice Hurley, Donna Carter, and Sandy Partelow to celebrate her life of service and encouragement.

Born on September 23, 1946, Ruth was the oldest child of the late Vincent R. and Mildred Ross of Dayton, Tennessee. She is predeceased by her brother Peter.

Ruth graduated from Rhea Central High School and obtained her undergraduate degree in education from Bryan College and her Master’s degree in education from Tennessee Tech. Ruth taught in the Rhea County and Hamilton County school systems for over 30 years. She loved it when her students learned and grew in maturity under her instruction.

More than anything on this earth, Ruth loved Jesus Christ and was so grateful that He forgave her sins and promised her new life with a new body (2 Corinthians 5). She worked diligently to be an example of Christ to everyone she encountered.

Her family celebrates her life well lived and will honor her with the receiving of friends at Vanderwall Funeral Home, Dayton, Tennessee, beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. A Celebration of Ruth’s life will follow at 4:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest in Rhea Memory Gardens in Dayton with a private family service.

The family expresses much appreciation to the staff members of Hospice of Chattanooga, Pam McAllister of Cornerstone Caregiving, and Gooden’s Compassionate Care for all the excellent care she received.

Memorial contributions to the Parkinson’s Foundation, North River Church, or Signal Mountain Bible Church are encouraged to be made in her honor.
