Rhea Middle Gets Win Over Cleveland: Loss to Athens: JV Begins Season 2-1
Evensville, TN -- RMS Girls’ Soccer team started off with some pre-season games to get their feet wet vs. McMinn with a mercy rule win 9-0 and a Signal Mountain close game loss of 1-2 with some questionable calls in the game.
The district games started off on August 11th with a loss at home for the Eagles vs. Athens of 0-5 for Varsity and 0-2 for the JV team. While any loss is hard, it is the lessons gained and learned that are the most valuable, and the Eagles are focused on looking forward. Varsity goalie Lola Bamber took a bombardment of 27 shots taken on her and recorded 22 saves vs. Athens!
The Eagles faced off for their second district game at home vs. Cleveland on the 18th with both V and JV recording wins. The Varsity lead off in hot, humid weather with water breaks being given at the halfway mark in each half. The Eagles came out dominating in passes and winning 50/50 balls and kept the offensive drives and pressure up all game. Leah Daniel took a 35 yard direct kick and launched it into the back of the net, recording her first Varsity goal of the season and the team’s first of the game. The second goal of the night came off of a beautiful corner kick by Collyns Stinson, who launched it across the goal and Audrey Roddy made her far-side net run in to make a gorgeous connection behind the goalie into the back of the net. Eagles lead 2-0 at halftime. The Eagles came out strong again in the second half, while the Raiders also picked up their pace for some shots on frame as well. The 3rd goal of the night came from a Millie Darnell assist in front of the net that Addie Hughes fought and battled to win and drive past the goalie. Goalie Lola Bamber recorded 7 saves in the game, as the Eagle’s defensive pressure kept the Raiders from their net the rest of the game. Darnell also recorded a 4th goal from a beautiful drive up the left side of the field, but the referee recanted it due to a fellow teammate being in an offsides position too close to Darnell’s drive up. Eagles win 3-0 with a district record of 1-1.
JV game followed after with the temperature dropping to pleasant, and the Eagles came out to battle as well. The first half saw a beautiful cross assist from Vivian Cranfill in front of the goal that Brandi Roddy and Jazz Richardson both ran onto and tapped into the net. The second half saw more offensive pressure from the Eagles with Blakleight Watson collecting a 50/50 ball in the air to bring down to her feet and drive up 40 yards to goal to finish with a blast past their keeper, recording the win of 2-0. JV record stands at 2-1 for the season.
