Rhea Middle Soccer Drops Opener vs Ocoee

Ocoee Middle Wins With 3-1 Advantage on Penalty Kicks After 1-1 Tie in Regulation

March 2026

1st game of the season under our belt vs. the defending champs, Ocoee Middle Colts, and what a game it was!! The Colts scored in the 1st half with our Eagles making some errors that the Colts took advantage of, outshooting us 12-2.  At halftime, our Eagles refocused and came out the 2nd half fired up and ready to battle. Making some adjustments, we came out and had 6 shots on goal, only allowing 7 shots from the Colts. Gustavo Lopez had some INSANE diving deflection saves over the top of the net all game, keeping us in the game. With 10 seconds left on the clock, Titus LeBlanc came up to the 30 yard line for a direct kick off a foul and blasted that kick that sailed up over their goalie's head into the far upper corner of the net! Tied the game up 1-1 with 10 seconds left on the clock!!! End of season regulation with a tie, which absolutely got our boys pumped up and rushing the field! There was some confusion, as refs called the game a tie, but the Ocoee coach (who is also the head of our district) stated the rules don't allow ties, that we immediately go into PK's for any regular season games. So, into PK's we went, after some deliberation. Gustavo Lopez had a great diving save off of Ocoee's first shot but so did their Ocoee goalie as well. Ocoee went on to score the next 3 shots, while RMS only landed 1 goal, so the final loss was 3-1 in PK's. Proud of our boys and their effort last night. While we still have some things to tweak to help us get better, we were also battling 6 being sick and just trying to push through it, so we aren't an entirely 100% healthy team right now either.

The JV came up after the Varsity and absolutely played their hearts out as well. We controlled possession of the ball for the majority of the game and ended up shooting the exact same number of shots on goal with the Colts as well. We had the opportunity to rotate between 3 goalies in the JV game, Jude Anderson, Finn Shaffer, and Stephen Shaver, all of whom did phenomenal. In the second half is when the Colts were able to slip one by, so the final score ended up with a loss of 0-1. Overall, a great night of soccer and keeping fans on the edge of their seats!!!
