RCHS Girls Soccer Wins 2-1 Over Walker Valley: Will Host Oakland on 10/19/24
Evensville, TN -- On Wednesday, 10/16/24 the Rhea County High School Lady Eagles won 2-1 over Walker Valley in a rematch from the District Championship game just a week earlier. Rhea County, much like the district championship, scored early with Cammie Ruehling putting the Lady Eagles up 1-0. Rhea scored its second goal when Laurel Butt outraced several defenders and a diving goalkeeper with 21:45 left in the first half. Lady Eagles held that lead until with less than 2 minutes left in the game, Walker scored to give a little tension to the last 2 minutes, but Lady Eagles were able to hold off the Lady Mustangs for the 2-1 win. The Lady Eagles would not find out their opponent until Thursday night when Seigel beat Oakland and reversed last year's fields as last year Lady Eagles traveled to Oakland, where they lost 5-0. Game time for the sectional game will be 12:30 pm at Bill Horton field. Seigel will take on Walker Valley on Saturday at 7 pm. Both sectional game winners will advance to the TSSAA State Tournament.
Oakland comes in with a 7-4-4 record while the Lady Eagles record is 13-7-2. Oakland brings an experienced and talented team. At recent awards for season, Aniah Leflouria of Oakland was named Defensive Player of the year and Leah Krugh was named Offensive Player of the Year. Leflouria is a senior defenders who contributed to Oakland only allowing 15 goals in 18 matches
