Sean Norman Scores Twice in Eagle Win; Junior Varsity Wins 1-0 on Hernandez Goal
3/16/24 Gulf Shores, FL -- RCHS Eagles men’s soccer team traveled to Gulf Shores, AL, over spring break weekend, March 14th-17th, to play and bond in the sand and sun. While two of the games scheduled were canceled on Friday, the Eagles were still able to play their games on Saturday vs. Elberta High School. JV saw good action with the boys able to put together quite a few attacks against the Warriors. JV won 1-0 with Jesus “Chuy” Hernandez scoring the single goal to round up their victory. The Varsity game started off strong with Sean Norman scoring in the first 5 minutes of play with assist from Garrett Sullivan. The Eagles kept up the relentless attack during the first half, finishing it with another goal from Norman from a Koelar Smith assist, so halftime score was 2-0. The second half saw the Warriors find their fight and start an offensive attack back against our Eagles defense, which worked excellently together. The Warriors managed to find the back of the net over a shot about 20 yards out and a perfect placement of the upper right corner of the net, barely scraping by Wes Robinson’s diving leap. Norman replied with another goal for the Eagles, but it was unfortunately called back by a questionable off-sides call from the ref. Final score for the Eagles was 2-1, sealing the wins for both JV and Varsity teams.
Coach Justin Smith commented on the trip to Gulf Shores. " This trip has always been for the main purpose of building team camaraderie and to get a few games in against teams we don't normally see. It was a great weekend for both of those purposes. These boys rarely get to just be together and have fun without being in a game or a practice setting, and this trip allows us to relax together a bit and build those relationships. It is consistently a favorite memory or our graduating classes over the years. "
