Clock Runs Out on Eagles and Jets
Home vs. Cumberland 3-10-26
The Cumberland Jets traveled to our Eagle nation on a beautiful evening for a Varsity kickoff at 7pm. The game started off with the Eagles scoring in the first half with a beautiful long ball by Simeon Toliver into the midfield that was settled with a gorgeous touch by Geo Pacheco, who turned, found Kevin Hernandez, who buried it with a powerful shot into the far upper corner of the net. Eagles maintained the 1-0 lead going into halftime with high energy and good ball movement through the back. The Jets came out with determination in the 2nd half, and an unfortunate foul outside of the box enabled the Jets to drive a direct kick low that bounced in and out of the far corner of the net, despite a diving save by Sam Rasnake, score now tied 1-1.
The physicality of the game intensified, with both teams battling it out to break the tie. Halfway through the 2nd half, a hand ball in the box was called against the Eagles resulting in a P.K. for the Jets, which they managed to once again place a shot that bounced in and out off the pole, with refs calling it a goal. Jets now up 2-1. Tensions ran high and the Jets part, received a yellow card for their coach.
With 52 seconds left on the clock Levi Toliver mounted a massive throw-in from the sideline that soared into the 6 yard box right in front of their goalie, which Pacheco ran in on and connected with his head to tie the game up, 2-2, with less than a minute left! The stadium erupted in cheers, as the boys looked to add one more in less than 45 seconds left.
An apparent hard foul was committed against an Eagle striker with 20 seconds left on the clock, which broke his collarbone and left him lying on the field not moving. The refs called the foul but would not stop the clock, despite the player laying on the field where the kick was supposed to be held, The clock ran out with referees did not acknowledge thus not allowing a direct kick.
