Freshman quarterback has an impact season for the 12-2 Eagles

Evensville, TN -- Kaleb Martin finiished his freshman season with the Rhea County High School football team with a great performance, being a starting quarterback for the Eagles. RCHS football head coach Pemberton does not have a habit of starting freshman at any position, so the start at quarterback was a big move and it paid dividends. Recently Martin was selected as "Newcomer of the Year: in Eagles District. In 11 games, Kaleb completed 73 of 142 passes for 1098 yards in a run oriented offense. Eagles finished 10-2 and dropped their final game to Oak Ridge 23-0. Before the final there was a 8 game run of scoring 20 points or more in each game. The most exciting aspect of Kaleb's career is the future. Three more years with the Eagles and a very solid team returns next year.

Kaleb is son of Lindsey Swafford and John Martin. His siblings are Kyanna Martin ,Kaitlyn Morgan ,Mariah Martin , Jawan Martin, Isaiah Sneed. and Maleea Martin,

Kaleb took time to answer a few questions about his first season at Rhea County.

What were your goals if any coming into your freshman season?

My goal coming into the freshman season was to be a major key on the offense and to show I was here to play.

What was the biggest challenge to being effective at the high school level?

The biggest challenge at the high school level is work effort it takes to get ready for the season.

Which team was the most difficult to play against this season?

The most difficult team I’ve had to play against this year was Walker Valley.

What do you need to work on this summer to be a better player in 2021?

Things in I need to work on in the summer 2021 are my 3 step drops and 5 step drops.

When did you begin playing football?

I began playing football when I was 5 years old for Dayton little eagles.

Other than football, what is your favorite sport?

The other sport I competed in was basketball, I have a lot of love and passion for the game of basketball.

Do you have a favorite professional quarterback or player that you follow?

A professional athlete I follow is Dak Prescott because he’s good at what he does and he’s a leader. Also the best thing about him he keeps god first.

What is your favorite subject in school and why?

If I had a favorite it would probably be history, I love learning about history especially black history.

What are some of your hobbies and interests?

Hobbies that interest me are any type of hunting ,and listening to music.

How great was it to be named newcomer of the year?

It’s feels amazing being the newcomer of the year ,but I’m shooting for higher standards through high school.

Do you have any gooals for next year?

My goal next year is to be quarterback of the year and All-State .
