Rhea County Brings 3-0 Record Into Cumberland Game

The 3-0 Rhea County High School Lady Eagles host Cumberland County High School on Monday, November 17, 2023 with Varsity Girls game at 6 pm. Cumberland County is coming off a 48-28 loss to Cookeville on November 17th. They opened the season with a win over Pickett County. They went 23-9 last year. They lost 4 seniors from last season. They bring in two very good 9th graders, 5'9" shooting guard Lauren Clark and 5'8" shooting guard Syndey Wilhite. Lauren is daughter of Cyndi Ainsworth Clark, who played for the Lady Eagles back in the mid 90's, before earning All-American honors at Hiwassee before finishing her career at Middle Tennessee. Cumberland opened the season with a 65-31 win over Pickett County.
Rhea County has wins over Tellico Plains, F.C. Boyd Christian and Concord Christian(all in the "Hall of Fame" tournament last week. Rhea won 48-39 over Tellico Plains, 53-29 over Boyd Christian and 54-45 over Concord Christian. Cammie Ruehling led the Lady Eagles against Concord Christian with 18 points. Also in double figures were Lakyn Lockhart and Emma Reeves with 11 and 10 points respectively. Natali Fender led Concord with 20 points.
Against F. C. Boyd, Jenna Burchard led the Eagles with 18 points and Lakyn Lockhart added 14 points. Lady Eagles took early 15-7 lead and increased lead to 29-9 at halftime on their way to the 53-29 win.

To open the season against Tellico Plains in the "Hall of Fame" Tournament, Lady Eagles won 48-39, recovering from a slow start(down 14-9 at end of 1st Quarter) with a 28-16 second half advantage for the win. Jenna Burchard led the Lady Eagles with 16 points and Lakyn Lockhart was in double figures with 13 points.
