Eagles Beat Walker Valley 4-3 to Split Season Opening Series

Evensville, TN -- Rhea County High School won in home opener 4-3 against Walker Valley on March 22, 2022. The win put the Eagle's record at 1-1 after a season opening 3-2 loss to Walker Valley at Walker Valley. Eagles began they season with excellent pitching against a very good Walker Valley team.

In Evensville, neither team scored over the first three innings. Cade Cook was starting pitcher and he piitchd 4 1/3 innings, giving up 2 runs and 2 hits while striking out 6. Jalen Fisher picked up the win for the Eagles with 1 inning pitched. he game up two hits and one run. Rex Pendergrass pitched 2 innings, giving up one hit and no runs for the save. Five different Eagles scored had hits. Kole Smith, Jalen Fisher, Ian Barley, Blake Rigsby and Rex Pendergrass had hits for Rhea County. Pendergrass had the lone extra-base hit, a double for Rhea.

In opening season loss at Walker Valley, the Eagles scored one run in third and another in the fifth. Walker Valley. Scoring for Eagles was Cade Cook and Drew Massengill. Both players reached on walks. Eagles had 11 walks on the night, but just two hits, one by Lane Brooks and another by Blake Rigsby. Brannan started for Rhea and gave up 3 runs and 4 hits over 4 2/3 innings. John walked 3 and struck out 7. Jalen Fisher pitched 1 2/3 inning of hitless relief, striking out 1 and walking one batter.
