Winona Imogene Sneed Long, age 85 of Dayton, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2024, at her home. She was born in Lupton City on October 3, 1938, the daughter of the late Havard Sneed and Anna (Mize) Sneed. She was also preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Claude and Frances Long of Rossville, GA; and her grandson, Jeremy Shell of Chattanooga, TN.
Winona was raised in Oak Hill in Dayton before moving to Chattanooga to attend McKenzie College of Business. There she met her husband at the YWCA. Leon and Winona then moved to Americas, GA before moving back to Oak Hill to make their home. She worked for the Chattanooga Public School system as an Executive Secretary to the Director for 34 years where she retired. Winona enjoyed spending time with her family, reading her books, swinging, puzzles, and various games. She loved her family deeply and enjoyed every second with them.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, William “Leon” Long of Dayton; her son, William "Kyle" (Leslie) Long of Spring City; her two grandchildren, William Courtland "Corey" Alan Long of Chattanooga, and Kyla Shell-Roddy of Signal Mountain; her three great- grandchildren, Marley, Landon, and Callaway Shell-Roddy; her two brothers, Leon Sneed, and Eddie Sneed, both of Dayton; her two sisters-in-law, Virginia (Bernard) Nichols of Chickamauga, GA, and Laura (Buddy) Strickland of Arab, AL; her brother-in-law, David (Frankie) Long of Fort Oglethorpe, GA; and her many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service for Winona will be held at Rhea Memory Gardens on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Jim Woychuk officiating
The family is being cared for by Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive friends Monday, June 3, 2024, after 5:00 p.m.
