Clara Jane Chadwick, age 88 of Dayton, passed away at Soddy-Daisy Healthcare Center on Friday, February 23, 2024. She was born in Pierre, South Dakota, on March 22, 1935, the daughter of the late John Ross Mason and Emily (Jacobs) Mason. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Gene Harlow Chadwick, her daughter, Susan Fox Humphrey, her brother, Ross Jacobs Mason; and her half-siblings, Johanna Ross Smith, David Benjamin Mason, Marion Spaid, Hazel Spaid, Jessie Nelson, Margaret Myers, Donald John Mason, and Chester Fleishhacker.

Clara lived in Pierre, SD, and Battle Creek, MI, before moving to Dayton in 1977. She was a homemaker and was a member of First Methodist Church in Dayton.

Clara is survived by her three daughters, Caryl (Robert) Shanks of Richmond, VA, Barbara (John) Henderson of Battle Creek, MI, and Jean (Lewis) Burgess of Salisbury, NC; her three sons, William Fox of Salisbury, NC, Rodney Chadwick of Richmond, VA, and Mark (Melissa) Chadwick of Keysville, VA; her nephew, Mitch Mason; and her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Clara will be in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 12:00 noon with Rev. Layne Pennington officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Faith Gardens at Buttram Cemetery after the service with her grandchildren as pallbearers.
