Luther Nelson “Butch” Whitfield, age 76, of Dayton, Tennessee, passed away on May 23, 2025, at Spring City Health Care Center in Spring City, Tennessee.

Born on August 2, 1948, in Dayton, he was the son of Richard and Barbara Jean Whitfield. A skilled auto mechanic by trade, Butch was known for his love of the outdoors and his passion for working on cars. He also had a deep love for music and was especially fond of singing his favorite hymn, Amazing Grace.

Butch was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Dayton, where he found strength in his faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Whitfield.

He is survived by his loving mother, Barbara Jean Whitfield of Dayton; daughter Rebecca Whitfield of Corry Pennsylvania, his sister, Carol Park of Dayton; his brother, Larry Whitfield of Spring, Texas; and two grandsons, Eric and Conner, both of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home.
