John Schaffer age 88 of Spring City died Friday, February 14, 2025 at Rhea Medical Center.

Born on July 18, 1936 in Loudon, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Charles and Eva Ramsey Schaffer. John moved to Spring City in 1964 from Loudon. He worked for over 30 years at the Southern Silk Mill and SSM. John was also a dairy farmer, coal miner and worked for the railroad. He loved to fish and sit out on his front porch. John was of the Baptist faith.

John was also preceded in death by his wife Mary Clark Schaffer, his sons Rodney and Tim Schaffer, his daughter Becky Park and his brother Charles Schaffer.

Survivors include his children Jeff Schaffer of Dayton and Denise (David) Brock, Darrell and Chuck Schaffer all of Spring City, his brother Harrison Schaffer of Loudon and his sister Rossie Word of Green Back, Tennessee, four grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Monday February 17, 2025 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Donnie Umphrey officiating. Interment will follow in the Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Vaughn Funeral Home from 11 to 1pm on Monday, February 17, 2025 prior to the service.
