James “Wade” Hill, age 90 of Dayton, passed away at his home on Thursday, February 27, 2025. He was born in Newark, New Jersey, on June 9, 1934, the son of the late Arthur A. and Lillie (Lyon) Hill.
Wade moved to Dayton in 2016 from New Jersey. He earned two Master’s degrees and was a civilian employee of the military at Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey for 25 years. He enjoyed reading, explaining things to people, teaching his grandchildren to tie knots, and killing poison ivy. He was very involved at The Crossing Church in Livingston, NJ, and served as a deacon, along with many other jobs. He attended Westminster Presbyterian Church in Dayton.
Wade is survived by his wife of 66 years, Judith (VanDerDecker) Hill; his two sons, Dr. Brian (Linda) Hill of Dayton and Mark (Karen) Hill of Connecticut; his grandchildren, Naomi Hill, Michelle Walpole, Adam Hill, Joseph Hill, Joanna Gallagher, Daniel Hill, Stephen Hill, Gideon Hill and Nathanael Hill; seven great-grandchildren; and his sister, Gail Hill (Jeff Green) of California.
Funeral services for Wade will be at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Carter Johnson officiating. Wade will be laid to rest at Rhea Memory Gardens.
