December 6, 1945 ~ June 4, 2024
James “Jimbo” F. Nichols, Jr., age 78, passed away June 4, 2024, at the Hospice Care Center in Chattanooga, TN. He gave up the fight of suffering & struggling with pain, he took the hand of Jesus and walked into his heavenly home. He was born December 6, 1945, to James and Bernice Nichols in Rhea County and was a lifelong resident. He attended Rhea Central High School and graduated from Chattanooga State Community College with an A.S. in Electrical Engineering.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the American Legion, and the V.F.W. Jimbo retired from T.V.A. as a Power System Maintenance Specialist. He enjoyed watching high school, college, and NFL football, fishing, hunting, playing cards, camping, and was a NASCAR fan.
In recognition of his service during the Vietnam War, Jimbo was honored as the Grand Marshal for the Thirty-eighth Annual East Tennessee Strawberry Festival Parade.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Bernice Nichols; brother, Gary Nichols; sisters, Judy Qualls, Karen Hidgon, Donna Stacks, Rebecca Nichols; grandparents, Floyd and Addie Nichols, Creed and Katie Dunn; niece, Misty Stacks.
Jimbo is survived by his son, Stacy (Cheryl) Staggs, of Florida; brothers, Gene, Larry (Glenda) Nichols, Dayton, Charlie Qualls, Chattanooga; sisters, Brenda (Jerry) Morgan, Sandra Morgan, Lisa (Hugh) Bustos, all of Dayton, and Kathy Freeman, Knoxville; Aunt Carolyn Isles, Dayton; Uncle Earl (Rosie) Dunn, Rockville, MD; and special friend, Shirley Reynolds; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and an abundance of friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM in the Chapel, with Brother L.J. Davis and Brother Terry Trussel officiating. Interment will follow at Burchard Cemetery with Military Honors.
Pallbearers will be, Jason Morgan, DeWayne Bustos, Joshua Stacks, Calvin Nichols, Mark Smith, Travis Potter.
