James Garrett “Scooby” Work-Grierson, age 27 of Dayton, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Erlanger Baroness Hospital in Chattanooga. He was born in Pensacola, Florida, on June 22, 1998, the son of the late Gary Grierson and Joanna Work of Pensacola, Florida, who survives him.

He made Dayton his home in 2019. At Walmart, he worked as a stocking agent in the receiving department, unloading trucks and keeping operations moving. Outside of work, he found joy in video games, expressing his creativity through poetry and book writing, and living out his faith as a follower of Jesus.

In addition to his mother, Scooby is survived by his son, Dylan Colby Work-Grierson of Dayton; his siblings, Aaron Work-Grierson of Spring City, Rachel Work-Grierson and Benjamin Work-Grierson, both of Pensacola, and Joseph Work-Grierson of Dayton; and his nephew, Elliott Grierson of Pensacola.

A Celebration of Life for Scooby will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the Dayton Family Church, 3314 Rhea County Hwy, Dayton, TN 37321.
