Glen A. Varner, age 82, passed away June 11, 2024, in Dayton, Tn. He was a resident of Rhea County since 1966, after he met the love of his life, his wife Mable. He owned Varner Construction company for forty years and loved working for and serving the people in his community; it was his passion. He was the incumbent Rhea County Road Supervisor and participated in community events such as the Rhea County Fair and supported local athletic programs.
He voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1963, serving six years, followed by an additional 26 years in the National Guard, reaching the rank of Chief Warrant Officer before retiring in 2004.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Claude and Virginia (Hill) Varner.
Glen is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mable; four children, Angie Keylon, Carol Varner Ballard, Bradley (Christy) Varner and Dave (Ashley) Varner; nine grandchildren, Bryce (Laken) Keylon, EmmaRuth (Spencer) Robinson, Noah Varner, MaleeKate ( Brady Rice) Ballard, Nate Varner, Marrick Ballard, Ava Varner, Ruby Varner & Owen Varner.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel at Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home, in Dayton, Tn, with Pastor Jeremy Dill and Brother Jackie Penney officiating. Burial will follow at Rhea Memory Gardens with Military Honors.
Family will receive friends Friday, June 14, 2024, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM, and Saturday from 10:00 – 11:00 AM.
