Knotted Blankets Show Love for Educational Leaders are dealing with significant Medical Issues
August 29, 2020
Dayton, TN -- Frazier Elementary School wanted to show our love and respect to 2 of our Central Office Workers who have been sick. Mr. Jerry Levengood, our director of schools, and Mr. Ray Fugate, our Elementary Curriculum Supervisor. Mr. Levengood has been receiving treatment for cancer, and Mr. Fugate has been in the Vanderbilt Hospital for many many days, more than 30 days.
As a staff, we wanted to do something special for both of these men. They both care much for the educational aspect of the community of Rhea County. We made 2 knotted blankets. A knotted blanket involves using fleece, making slits in the perimeter and then tying and knotting them together. The blankets were left in the front office. During the school day, staff members came by the office, and had a moment of silence for our sick leaders, and then tied some knots. One knotted blanket was named "The Quarterback of Rhea County Schools", and it was for Mr. Jerry Levengood. The other knotted blanket was named "Rhea loves Ray", and it was for Ray Fugate. Ray Fugate's daughter, Emma, is a RCHS cheerleader,. The cheerleaders also tied and knotted a blanket for Emma.
This was a school wide staff event, everyone participated. It was an activity that allowed us to do something concrete for people we miss and we need well, so they can help us maneuver our school through this Pandemic. Here are 2 pictures of staff members tying and knotting these blankets. The Fugate blanket is being delivered sometime early next week to Nashville where Ray's family is staying. The Quarterback of Rhea County Knotted blanket will be delivered to Mr. Levengood one day soon.
