It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edwin Emmitt "Bubba" Scates, Jr., who left this world on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at his home surrounded by his beloved family.
Born to Edwin Emmitt Scates, Sr. and Patti Dorn Scates on September 16, 1973 he was a life-long resident of Sale Creek and of the Baptist faith.
Bubba was a devoted husband, father, and friend. His kind spirit, laughter, and infectious personality touched the lives of all who knew him. His favorite time of year was Christmas when he would dye his beard and play Santa for the children of the community and Graysville Library along with Tractor Supply and the Animal Hospital for the animals. He was a member of the Dayton Masonic Lodge and a “Hardcore” farmer, loving every moment he spent on the farm. Bubba also loved fishing and loved helping everyone. Bubba was loved deeply by his family and friends and will be remembered for his warmth, his generous heart, and his unwavering love for those he held dear.
Bubba is preceded by his grandparents, Lloyd and Frances Dorn and Lewis and Ruth Scates.
Bubba is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Barger Scates, and his cherished children, Wesley Scates, Destiny and Preston Mize, and Jeanna Keltch; parents, Emmitt and Patti Scates; two brothers, Michael and Jamie Scates; best friend Bill and Becky Simpson; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a host of extended family members and close friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
A funeral service will be held at Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home February 22, 2025 at 7PM with Reverends Emmitt Scates and Julian Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 4PM until service time.
