Sweatbees Move on to Play Oliver Springs on Thursday
10/20/20
Oneida, TN -- Dayton City School opened the playoffs on the road against a familiar opponent in Oneida, who the Sweatbees beat last year to win Championship. Their reward is to move on in the playoffs with another game on the road. This Thursday, October 22, they travel to Oliver Springs to take on a team that also has been a very successful program that been no stranger to the championship games of post-season play. The Spring City Middle team has taken on the Bobcats a very times in the past few years. Oliver Springs will be coming off a regular season final win over Lake City Middle by score of 40-6 to push their record to 8-0.
This year DCS entered the Onedia game with a much different team. Gone were several of the key players(including Rex Pendergrass, Ethan Daivs and Bryce Dupre) in last years team, now playing on the fields of Rhea County High School. Oneida is always a tough opponent, and especially at home. DCS team improved throughout the year and several of the replacements for the departed players stepped up and made big plays for the Sweatbees. DCS took an early lead 8-0 with a Braylon Geer to JP Brannan 56 yard touchdown pass with 2:10 left in 2nd quarter. Landon Stewart added the 2 point conversion. Later in the game, it was Ace Robinson with the 33 yard touchdown run and following 2 point conversion for a 16-0 lead with 424 left in 3rd quarter. Chauncey Odum scored the final score on a 50 yard plus touchdown and DCS finished with final 22-8 margin.
A win against Oliver Springs would move Bees on to championship game, where they would play the winner of the Rockwood vs Rockwood game.
Coach Jeff Hill talked about the game. Jeff said, "Zander Nixon had a big interception late in the game and a fumble recovery. Rylin Suttles and Dillon Johnson also had big plays for the Bees. We will be traveling to play a very good Oliver Springs team on Thursday."
"I am so proud of this team. They have come a long ways since the beginning of the season. As ususal the fans have been great in their support at home and on the road."
