David O. Woods Obituary

December 7, 1941 - March 28, 2025

David O. Woods died Friday, March 28, 2025 at his residence, surrounded by his family.

David was born on December 7, 1941 in Florence, Alabama to the late J. C. and Edith Irons Woods Sr. He graduated from Central High School and moved to Florida for a time to work in the Everglades. David later moved to Nashville, Tennessee where he worked for Kroger/Farmers Market Warehouse as a manager. He later worked for Partridge Brokerage Co. and Blaylock Excavating Co. David worked as a general contractor, building houses before he begin to work for the City of Rockwood as a building inspector and as the Director of Parks and Recreation. Eventually, he moved to Spring City where he became a farmer. David loved all kinds of sports and was a T.S.S.A.A. official for several years. His favorite teams were the Tennessee Vols and the Alabama Crimson Tide. David loved living on Watts Bar Lake, where he could take his grandchildren boating and fishing. He loved his family and loved spending time with them. David was of the Baptist faith.

David was also preceded in death by his brothers Eddie and Larry Woods and his “in-laws” Jim and Mae Grasham (who adored him).

Survivors include his wife Rebecca “Becky” Woods of Spring City, his daughter Margaret (Wes) Woods of Harriman, grandchildren Rebecca Lemasters of Knoxville and David Lemasters of Kingston, his brothers J.C. (Debbie) Woods Jr. of Five Point, Tennessee, Jimmy (Doris) Woods, Gene (Deb) Woods and Steve (Sandra) Woods all of Florence and his sisters Connie Woods of Florence, Sheila (James) Duncan of Pontotoc, Mississippi, his sisters in law Judy Woods and Millie Woods both of Florence and his breakfast buddies from Hardees and Blondie’s whom he saw every morning; when he was able.

As per his wishes, there will be no services or visitation.
