Former Rhea County High Boys's Basketball Coach Changes Schools

Evensville, TN -- RCHS Boy's basketball coach Daniel Curits has moved on to coach the McMinn Central High School boys basketball team. Daniel coached RCHS boys basketball since June of 2016. His best finish was 2017-2018 when he went 16-14. Daniel took over as head basketball coach at RCHS in June 2016, following coach Mike Phillips.
Daniel Curtis, who is 35, coached at Sequoyah High School before coming to Rhea County High School. At Sequoyah he guided the boys basketball team to 95-70 record over his last last six years there. His teams at Sequoyah won five district championships and one district tournament championship.
Daniel began his coaching career at Philedelphia Elementary School, where he coached from 2006 to 2010. Daniel also had year as assistant varsity coach and Freshman head coach at Loudon High School in 2005.
Daniel played two guard for the Loudon basketball team before graduating in 2004. He attended Tennessee Wesleyan College from 2005-2008 and graduated from TWC with BA in Physical Education.
Daniel played at Loudon under Coach Eric Mitchell and learned much of his offensive and defensive philosophies from Eric. He was assistant at Loudon for a year and then coached at Philedelphia Elementary. He followed Red Waller, was a legend there for 30 years. Daniel was excited for the challenge of coaching at Philedelphia. He then moved to Sequoyah High School and enjoyed success there from the beginning with 25-5 record first year as well as District Championship.
Coach Curtis said, "The administration, the school, the coaches were all very supportative during my four years at Rhea County. I enjoyed my time at Rhea County. The coaching position at McMinn Central is a great opportunity to get close to home and back in familiar waters. I know these coaches and have either played against or coached against them in the past".
"Doug Armstrong, 21 years at McMinn Central, retired to create the opening. He went to state two or three state tournaments, and won multiple district titles."
"I will be teaching PE at McMinn Central."
"I am very familiar with District 5 AA. My brother, Ben is assistant at Loudon. My former assistant Jeremy Henderson at Sequoyah is at head coach at Sweetwater High School. I played against coach at John Tucker, the coach at .Polk County. I also coached against Meigs County's Sammy Perkins,. Anny Pennington is the head coach at Sequoyah."
