Eagles Soccer Varsity Drops Game and Junior Varsity Wins 1-0

4/11/25 Evensville, TN

The Eagles hosted the Cleveland Raiders Friday night, April 11th. The JV squad started off the evening with a back-and-forth game between the two teams, with good passing and shots by the Eagles through the midfield and up top, while the Eagles defense held itself tightly down, allowing only a couple of shots on goal but diving saves by Ethan Nelson kept the score at 0-0 at halftime. The Eagles came out in the 2nd half more focused and within the first 15 minutes of play, Anderson Cathey won a ball in the air, dribbled it down past the defense, and blasted a shot past their keeper, giving the Eagles the lead 1-0. The Eagles defense again tightened down and allowed no serious attempts to score, clearing the ball out quickly even on corner kicks, so the JV record stands undefeated at 7-0-1.

The Varsity finished up the evening activities and came out looking to go to battle against the Raiders. Unfortunately an early crack on defensive pressure allowed the Raiders to score early in the first half, but the Eagles quickly refocused and picked up their attempts to even the score but halftime still saw them scoreless. The second half saw the physicality of the game pick up, as both teams were battling for domination. The Eagles picked up a yellow card with pressures mounting, but they still kept their focus on evening the score. The Raider’s were awarded a foul inside of the box but the PK was shot wide, and the Eagles were still in the game. A corner kick saw the ball bobbling around inside of the Cleveland 6 box, but despite multiple attempts by different Eagles to finish it, the ball was eventually cleared out by the Raiders. While the pressure was not enough to even the score, the Eagles did not give up another goal with goalie Wes Robinson recording 12 saves, final score was the loss of 0-1. Eagle’s record now stands at 4-8. Their next game will be at Cumberland High School this Thursday, April 17th with games away at East Hamilton on Tuesday, April 22nd, and Senior Night celebration at home vs. Ooltewah on Thursday, April 24th.
