Anthony “Tony” Brown Obituary

July 31, 1956 ~ September 1, 2025 

Anthony “Tony” Dean Brown, age 69, of Dayton, Tennessee, passed away suddenly on Monday, September 1, 2025, at Rhea Medical Center in Dayton. He was born in Dayton on July 31, 1956, to James Edgar and Catherine Jones Brown.

A lifelong resident of the area, Tony was retired from the La-Z-Boy Chair Company in Dayton and was of the Methodist faith. He was well known as a kind-hearted man, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. Family meant everything to him, and he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Catherine Brown, and his nephews Corey Gillespie and Kellon Gillespie.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette Gillespie Brown; his sons, James (Chenera) Brown of Nashville, Tennessee, and Anthony (Carrie) Brown of La Vergne, Tennessee; grandchildren, Isaiah, Dean, Brooklyn, and Isabelle; and great-grandchild, Hazley. He is also survived by his brother, Ronald C. Allen of Atlanta, Georgia; brothers-in-law, Donnie (Alyne) Gillespie and Gerald Gillespie; sister-in-law, Margie (Walter) Jackson; nephews, Tony and Derrik Allen, Shawn Gillespie, and Bobby Gallaher; nieces, Rosalyn Gallaher, Shavasha Gillespie, and Tosha Rogers; and special cousins, David and Janet Black, Crystal and Portia Jones, and Anise Thorpe. He also leaves behind several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Coulter Garrison Funeral Home, with Rev. Denard Bertram officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the time of service.
