Amari and Gavin Roddy Playing Football Together Again at Saint Mary-Of-The-Woods

Former Rhea County High School Football Players and Brothers Back Together in College

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana -- Gavin and Amari Roddy are playing football together again at Saint Mary-Of-The-Woods. They are playing "Sprint Football", which is same as regular football, but players must be below a certain weight limit. Spring Football has been around for quite a while. According to SprintFootball.com, "Spring Football is a full-contact, intercollegiate, varsity sport and has same rules as regular football, except all players must weigh 178 pounds or less". The league has been in existence since before World War II. Amari, wearing number 27 is playing safety and Gavin, wearing number 17, is playing defensive back. They play six games and then the playoffs. Saint Marys in in the Midwest Spring Football League. They won their first game 34-28 over Clumet. Amari and Gavin each had a tackle in the game. They played Quincy University on September 24th.

Gavin and Amari together answered a few question for Tennessee Community Magazine.

How did you come to the decision to attend St. Mary's?

"It was a tough decision, especially with our family being hours away from us."

Gavin, how excited are you to be playing with Amari again?

"We are blessed to have another opportunity to play together on the field,"

What are you majoring in at St. Mary?

"I am majoring in Sports Management, and my Amari is majoring in Knesiology."

What has been the biggest difference between high school and college academics?

"High school academics was easier and college is a lot more work and more difficult. It requires a lot of studying, but all the teachers here are great teachers and will make it simple for you,"

What are some of your favorite memories from high school football?

"Some of the great memories is when I got that on side kick, that interception and took it back, and just all the play off memories, and for Amari it was the Walker Valley interception to walk the game off."

When did you and Amari begin playing together on football field?

We played football since we were 4-5 years old, and we started playing on the field together when I was in the 7th grade and he was in 8th."

Do you have any plans yet for life after college?

"Our plans are to make it the NFL."

What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of classroom and football field?

"We play basketball, hangout with all the football players, extra work on the field, and probably go out to the ISU games,"
