Sandra Moore Obituary

November 4, 1947 ~ September 21, 2024

The sunset peacefully occurred for Sandra Elzata Moore, 76 on September 21, 2024, while surrounded by prayer and loving family, following a brave and courageous fight. Sunrise for a kind and loving Sandra occurred in Bakewell, Tennessee on November 4, 1947, to Oralee Swafford Moore (Aunt Tootsie) and the late Erie Moore, Jr.  

She was raised and lived her life in Bakewell, Tennessee and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1965.  Sandra was employed with the City of Chattanooga HeadStart Program but during that time dedicated over 40 years working with and the caring for numerous children in various capacities prior to retirement.  She received her Social Services Competency Based Training Certification and served as an advocate for families and children. Following retirement Sandra served and gave back to her community by working at the election polling site for numerous years.  She was a member of the New Mount Annie Baptist Church, where she was a committed member of the Mission Board, Usher Board, and Scholarship Committee.  She served as the Assistant Financial Secretary and Assistant Vacation Bible School Director.

Sandra was a very nurturing and loving mother and daughter. Sandra hobbies included the enjoyment of crafts and making gift baskets for others to enjoy.  Of course, her main hobby, sunset and sunrise was her daughter Amy.  Her warmth and kindness were shared with relatives and friends and Sandra leaves memories to many, as she was always eager to support anyone who needed her, whether it be words of encouragement, courage, monetary support or just genuine love and care.  She loved her family deeply, took ceaseless care of her mother and over the years became truly a second mother to many children.  Sandra loved watching western movies and window shopping for hours.  

She was preceded in death by her father, Erie Moore, Jr, brothers Larry Moore and Dennis Moore, niece Donya Byrd, nephews, Joey Smith and Michael Moore, grandparents, Wesley and Judith Swafford and Erie and Edna Moore.  She is survived by her mother, Oralee Swafford Moore, Bakewell, Tennessee, dedicated daughter Amy Renee Moore, Bakewell, Tennessee; sister, Julia Byrd, Ooltewah, Tennessee; brother, Jackie Moore, Knoxville, Tennessee, sister-in-law, Marie Moore, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia; nieces, Darlynn Byrd, Rossville, Georgia; Kristi Moore, Antioch, Tennessee; NaQuaina Moore, Knoxville, Tennessee; nephew, Criag Moore, Baconton, Georgia.  Adopted Children, Ebony Davis and Cornelia Hampton. Grandchildren, Mylan Hutchins, Kobi Jones, Mylez Sligh, My’Kenzie Sligh, and Zuri Hampton.

Funeral service to celebrate Sandra’s life will be held at Coulter Garrison Funeral Home, Dayton, Tennessee on September 30th at 2:00 pm with Pastor Tyrus Chilsom officiating. Visitation will take place on September 30th 1:00-2:00 pm at Coulter Garrison Funeral Home, Dayton, Tennessee.  Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
