Mr. Lavon Prater Obituary

February 8, 1961 ~ July 2, 2024 

Mr. Lavon “Pete” Prater, an avid outdoorsman and beloved family man, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by friends and family on July 2, 2024, at the age of sixty-three. Born on February 8, 1961, Pete was a longtime resident of Rhea County Tennessee and spent his life dedicated to his family and his passions.

Pete was known for his love of the great outdoors. He found joy in fishing and camping, spending countless hours by the water and under the stars, sharing his love for nature with those around him. His favorite moments were those spent with a fishing rod in hand or sitting around a campfire with family and friends. He also enjoyed drawing, finding peace and creativity in putting pencil to paper, and gardening. Where he enjoyed growing and sharing his vegetables.

An avid billiard player, Pete was passionate about pool and enjoyed teaching the game to his son, cultivating a lifelong passion for the game between them.

A spiritual Christian, Pete found his faith in personal reflection and connection to nature. Known for his incredible generosity, Pete often put the needs of others before his own, giving away what he had to help those around him. His selflessness and kindness touched many lives and left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Willette Brock Prater and Jackson Prater, and his sister, Sam Rothwell. He is survived by his children, Tim Prater, Kim Prater, and Dillon Broome; brother, Bill Prater; six grandchildren, Haley and Cameron Parman, Nicholai Prater, Noelle Grace Crow, Ilene Faith Crow, and Dillion Brooke; nieces and nephews, Carmen Riggs, Amy Morton, Stacy Raines, and Eric Rains. He is also survived by multiple grandnieces and grandnephews. Pete’s legacy of warmth, kindness, and a deep appreciation for nature will continue to live on through his family and friends.

Pete touched many lives with his generosity, humor, and love for adventure. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

Funeral service will be held Saturday July 6 in the chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home at 3PM with Chaplin Bryce Current officiating. Interment will follow in the Henson Cemetery in Pikeville, TN. The family will receive friends prior to service from 1PM until service Saturday.
