Rhea County Puts Red Bank Loss Behind and Preps For Big Game on Friday
Evensville, TN -- Rhea County Football prepares for friday night game at home against Soddy Daisy. This is a big game for both teams. Home field for playoffs is on the line. Rhea County win gives Eagles home field throughout playoffs. Soddy win on Friday and win vs Walker Valley will give them home field throughout playoffs. Rhea County has earned a home field for first game of playoffs. Don't count out Walker Valley either as a win over Soddy could make things interesting for playoffs. Eagle fans want to end the speculation with win on Friday.
Rhea County is looking to respond after a very ugly loss to Red Bank last week in Red Bank. On a game at the end of fall break and on the heals of tragic loss of teachers and long time sports writers, and without two important players, Bradley Goodwin and Jackson Langley, the Eagles probably did not play their best, but Red Bank is a very good team. Soddy also has bad memories with an August 38-6 loss to Red Bank.
So Soddy will bring its no huddle fast paced passing offense to Rhea County which will continue to run the ball relentlessly out of the winged T. Rhea will be looking to avenger last year's 17-14 loss in Soddy. Soddy put up 42 points in their most recent game in a 42-41 win over Signal Mountain. In that game junior quarterback Isaac Barnes(coach's nephew) threw for 271 yards and 5 touchdowns. Rhea County will look to return to the overpowering offense that was regularly putting up over 300 yards per game on the ground and the hard hitting defense the Eagles displayed through the first six games.
Coach Justin Barnes and Mark Pemberton will continue their personal series with Barnes getting his inital win last year. Both coaches came to their schools back in 2013.
The game will be part of the 2019 Friday Night rival series, so look for a few more cameras on the sidelines.
Rhea County will go out of Region for game on the road after the Soddy game at Karns and before finishing off season at home against Marion County. Soddy will play at home vs Bradley County and then against Walker Valley in region game.
