Lady Eagles Win Over McMinn to Run Record to 8-3
Athens, TN -- The Rhea County High School Volleyball team picked up a district win on Tuesday night @ Mcminn County High School. The Junior Varsity began the night with a 2 game sweep vs McMinn and the varsity swept the 3 games vs McMinn for the match win. Rhea is currently ranked # 19 in the Tennessee Volleyball Coaches Association poll and with the win they run their record to 8-3. The team plays a complete game with deep set of outside hitters, nice complement of back row players and good service game to boot. Coach Stephanie Poe and her staff have this team playing well and Thursday, September 3rd, they travel to Bradley to play the # 17 ranked Lady Bearettes in a big game. Bradley is 11-2 and leads District 6 AAA with a 4-0 record. Rhea is tied with Cleveland in the 5 AAA District with 2-0 records.
Coach Stephanie Poe talked about this years team.
"We are very strong but I think what makes this team truly great is how well they all get along and encourage each other. We play Cleveland next Thursday at home at 6:15. The winner will be number 1 in the district and I truly think we can take them this season."
Talk about your rotation and outside hitting.
"I have both my OH Rolley Thurman and Zaylee Wilkey playing all 6 rotations. They are strong back row attackers as well and have range in the back court."
Who are your captains this year?
"My captains are Kindale Rumer, Brinley and Rolley Thurman. They are all three determined to make it past the regions and make history. I have been running two liberos Blakeli Graham and Ella Kelley."
Telll us a little about the leadership and mental makeup for this team.
"I think the leadership is strong this season and every player on our team has the same goal in mind. Make it to substate and compete to move on! We play Bradley tonight which is a huge game for us."
