Herbert Nelson Bates, age 62, of Pikeville, Tennessee, passed away on November 20, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on August 26, 1963, in Japan to Herbert and Sandra Bates II.

He was a devoted and loving husband and father who tried to be there for everyone. He loved dirt track racing.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Grace Houston Bates; four children, Crystal Bates, Sandra Bates Kiser, Wayne Bates, and Mitch Bates; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Coulter Garrison Funeral Home with Bro Roland Pullen officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow in the Smyrna Cemetery.
