James “Poppy” Patton, 87, of Graysville, TN, passed away peacefully at his residence on June 2, 2025. He was born on April 20, 1938, in Rockwood, TN, to the late John and Mildred McGee Patton.
A lifelong resident of the area, Poppy was of the Methodist faith. He was a truck driver by trade and an avid football fan. Known for his strength, kindness, and quiet wisdom, he was a remarkable man who left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, JoNelda; his sisters, Sue Qualls and Wanda Spencer; and his brothers, John Jr., Eddie, and James Harold Patton.
He is survived by his children, Craig Patton and Marla (Jesse) Messimer; his brothers, Sam (Judy) Patton and Don Patton; grandchildren, Lauren and Bailee Messimer, Lans Patton, Riley (Gracie) Patton, and Hayla Patton; great-grandchildren, Bentlee Fullam, Jaxon Nelson, and Hayes Patton; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A graveside funeral service will be held at Rhea Memory Gardens on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with Bro. Micah Ruehling officiating.
