Morristown, TN – Rose Center welcomes internationally acclaimed guitarist Hiroya Tsukamoto on Friday, May 3, for a day of music, made possible by the East Tennessee Foundation. Hiroya will lead an informal guitar masterclass beginning at 3:00 PM, followed by an evening performance at 7:00 PM, as part of the Live at Rose Center concert series.
The guitar masterclass at 3:00 PM offers guitarists a rare opportunity to learn from one of the world’s finest fingerstyle players in a relaxed and supportive setting. The class is open to ages 12 and up, is designed for players with basic chord knowledge, and will cover topics such as tone, rhythm, thumb placement, improvisation, and practice techniques. Tsukamoto’s instruction is known for clarity, patience, and warmth. Registration is $35 and required in advance before May 2nd, 5 PM —email events@rosecenter.org with your name or sign up through the Rose Center’s online store at www.rosecenter.org/online-store.
Starting at 7:00 PM, Tsukamoto takes the stage in Prater Hall for his concert, “A Journey Through Strings and Stories.” As a graduate of Berklee College of Music, his unique blend of fingerstyle guitar and spoken word has been featured on stages like the Blue Note in NYC, Japanese National Television (NHK), United Nations, and International Storytelling Center. His performances have been praised by Acoustic Guitar Magazine as “delicate, fluid, and beautifully detailed,” and described by the Boston Herald as “an impressionistic journey.”
“Hiroya Tsukamoto may play the guitar with the skill of a virtuoso... but if I had to choose one word to describe him it would be orchestrator,” notes Acoustic Guitar Magazine. Whether performing a composition or telling a story, Hiroya invites listeners into a deeply personal and moving musical world that lingers long after the final note. “We are thrilled to welcome back Hiroya to Rose Center for our Live at Rose Center concert series. His music is a beautiful fusion of cultures, storytelling, and masterful guitar work that transports audiences to another place. It’s an honor to host such a globally recognized artist in our historic venue.”
