December 13, 1939 ~ February 25

Bobby Lee “Cobb” Goins Sr. went home to the Lord on February 25, 2025. He is survived by his loving wife Virginia Della Goins and two sons Bobby Lee “Chip” Goins Jr (Renee) and John Brandon Goins. He has three admiring grandsons, Zachery Goins, Hunter Goins, and Ellic Goins. He is also survived by his sister, JoAnn McCrary. He was proceeded in death by his mother Katherine Goins and sister Barbara Schoder.
He was an All-Conference and Best Back at Rhea Central High School in 1959. Cobb also played baseball and softball and had fond memories of playing with the Dayton Blue Jays. He spent two years in the United States Army where he was stationed at Fort Hood Texas from 1963 – 1965. He was in the 2nd Armored Division “Hell On Wheels” where he was a tank Commander and also qualified as a Sharpshooter while in the Service.
After his honorable discharge from the Army, he was hired at Combustion Engineering where he became a welder/grinder and was employed for 11 years. After leaving Combustion, he taught welding for 2 years at Harrison Bay Vocational School where he enjoyed teaching young men to weld and playing slow pitch softball with them. After leaving Harrison Bay Vocational School, he was employed at The Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant (VAAP) where he worked in Security and was an on-site Fireman.
When he was young boy, he loved to hunt with his dogs, especially Frank. He went on to teach his sons to hunt and fish and later turned his attentions to gardening. Gardening became a passion that sustained him through the rest of his life. His greatest anticipation was spring when he could plant his garden and later pick the squash, tomatoes, beans, and cut okra. He enjoyed his fruit tress where he could harvest his apples and peaches. His wife canned and froze most of their harvest, but gave much of it away to friends and people he met that he liked. He enjoyed making his “apple pie” and sharing with his friends, especially at the Sports Barn where he enjoyed his early morning workouts. He loved being in his yard followed by his best friend “Blackie” the cat, who in his opinion, acted like a dog. Those around Cobb knew he would cut up and entertain everyone in the room and was a very happy man who enjoyed a good laugh. He was loved most of all by his family, friends, and peers. He will be sorely missed by all. Rest in peace Cobb, we love you.
The family will receive friends at Coulter Garrison Funeral Home on Sunday March 2,2025, from 1:00 until 3:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at 3PM in the Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve Granger officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery.
