December 27, 1945 - January 27, 2025

Rose “Marie” Nelson, age 79 of Hixson, passed away at her home early Monday morning, January 27, 2025. She was born in Rhea County on December 27, 1945, the daughter of the late Roscoe and Hazel (Gennoe) Sneed. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, E.J. “Jack” Thorpe, Jr.; her second husband, Elzie L. Nelson; her brothers, Thaxton Sneed, Dallas Sneed, and Jay W. Sneed; and her sister, Artis Shipley.

Marie lived in Dayton before moving to Hixson in 1972, was employed at Brach Candy Company, and was of the Church of God faith.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Renee (Mark) Griffin of Estill Springs, Tennessee; her sons, Gregory J. (Rhonda) Thorpe and Edward J. Thorpe, both of Hixson; her four grandchildren; her nine great-grandchildren; her sister, June (Tommy) Wilson of Dayton; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life for Marie will be in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 12:00 noon with Rev. Jim Woychuk officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Elzie Nelson, at Pleasant View Cemetery in Graysville.
