Carder Is One of 15 2020 DYW Competitors

May 15, 2020 Dayton, TN --  Camryn Carder, a 2020 Distinguished Young Woman Program competitor is the daughter of Courtney and Glenn Carder.  She has a sister Carley Carder.  Camryn attended Rhea Central Elementary and  Rhea Middle School before attending Rhea County High School.  She plans on attending Vanderbilt University to pursue a degree in Chamical Engineering.  She will be playing Midnight Escapade by Melody Bober on piano in the talent portion of the competition.  She has 10 years experience playing the piano.  The only similar events to DYW were piano recitals. Miss Carder answered a few questions for Rhea County Magazine. Who was your favorite teacher(s) in school? My favorite teacher(s) were  Ms. Michelle Solomon, Mrs. Janice Hunter, Mr. Bryan Massengale, Ms. Jamie Payne, and Ms. Connie Landreth.  They all have been some of the most influential teachers and mentors in my life." What section of the program makes you the most nervous? "I am most nervous about messing up/forgetting the fitness routine." Do you have friends who have participated in the DYW competition? Yes, my sister Carley, my friends from band: Brianna and Katie, and all of my friends from the yearbook staff: Ally, Maddie, and Saeri. Do you have a favorite quote or bible verse? “When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful.” - Malala Yousafzai.  I love this quote because I believe in speaking up for what you believe in and making a significant impact in the world." How has covid-19 and the protections taken for safeguards affected your senior season? "Covid-19 has affected my school life drastically.  I don’t see my friends or teachers everyday like I used to. It’s hard to adjust to, especially since the change came without much of a warning." "I was very disappointed to lose the chance to have a live DYW performance, but I was even more disappointed to lose the opportunity to really get to know all of the ladies participating and the opportunity to volunteer and help out the community with all that the program does." What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of school? "Some of my hobbies include playing music and reading.  I’ve also recently started training to get my Pilot’s License.  I am an avid SCUBA diver and love anything and everything to do with water. Some of my interests include politics, science, technology, and hanging out with my cats."
