Dayton, TN -- Dayton Distinguished Young Woman is still on for 2020, but with major changes. This year the program is doing everything by video, here in Rhea County and at other programs around the state. Everything that would normall be done on stage with audience will be videoed and then judges will come to do live interview with each contestant. When the process is finished the judges will review the video to judge the categories. There will be no audience or parents in attendance. There are still some details to be worked out as to awards presentation.
The Distinguished Young Women program is one of the oldest scholarship programs in the nation for high school girls. It was founded 1958 in Mobile, Alabama. Distinguished Young Women’s participants are eligible for college granted scholarships from various colleges and universities.
The program is designed to inspire high school girls to develop to their fullest potential; this includes developing self-confidence, the ability to speak in public, and many other skills. The 18 young women came together for this competition and were judged at various levels. The breakdown of judging is as shown: interview 25%, scholastic 20%, talent 25%, self-expression 15% and fitness 15%
Sixteen young juniors are participating in the program this year. Pics, names and talent are listed below. Good luck to our young ladies as they showcase their talents, academics, composure and gain valuable life experience.
