2020 Distinguished Young Woman Preview – Bailey McCoy

Bailey McCoy One of 15 Competitors in DWY Program for 2020

May 12, 2020 Dayton, TN --  Bailey McCoy is daughter of Brent and Valerie McCoy.  She has one sister Taylor Mccoy.  Bailey attended Spring City Elementary and Middle School before moving up to Rhea County High School.  Shea has not made definite college plans but is deciding between Journalism/Creative Writing or Interior Design.   Bailey, along with 14 other competitiors will compete in the program at Rudd auditorium on May 16th and 17th, but without family, friends or any audience watching their performances.  Covid-19 and restrictions on large gathering have changed the way of the program this year. Who have been your favorite teacher(s) during your school years? "I have several teachers that have been my favorites, including Brandi Groce, Amber Butler, Cara Reed, Gayla Hood, Billynthia Hill, and Debbie Wilson." What will be your talent in the DYW competition? "I will be doing archery. I will be shooting 11 arrows for my 90 second talent portion. I have been shooting archery for about five years." What portion of the competition brings out the most nervousness? The fitness routine makes me the most nervous." Have you done similar programs before? "I have done several pageants before this." Do you have friends, who have competed in the program before? "Several of my friends over the year have done the program including Katie Chattin and Katie Harris.  I was Katie Harris’s little sister for last year’s program." What are your plans after high school? "I plan on going into Journalism/Creative Writing or Interior Design for my career and through college.  I have not completely decided but she is leaning towards Creative Writing for an English Major.  Might just have a business major so if I still can’t decide I can go either way for my career one day." What is your favorite bible verse(s) or quote? "‭‭James‬ ‭1:3‬ ,“knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.”  or  this verse about Lot’s wife!”  ‭‭Luke‬ ‭17:32‬ (which reminds me to focus on Christ instead of Earthly things). "The angel told his wife not to look back at the town, she did and turned into a pile of salt."  Trust Jesus and chase him more than anything else." How have covid-19 affected you over the last two months? "I haven’t gotten to see my best friends or family members and I have a lot more free time than I usually do in my everyday routine. I’ve been reading novels, turkey hunting, and playing with my dog." What are your feeling about not getting to compete with family, friends and an audience? " I am very disappointed that close friends and family that have waited a long time to see me participate in DYW won’t get to be in the auditorium the day I perform. I am also grateful we still get the chance to do it, though. I also think I might do better without a big crowd watching. We’ll just have to see how I do! -how disappointed are you about the loss of live audience." What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of school? "I enjoy playing with my dog, attending church, Bible journaling, reading novels and poetry.  I also enjoy writing and editing, shooting archery, hunting, hanging out outside, playing board games, and spending time with friends and family."
