3 Unbeaten Area Teams in Action with Cleveland @ Red Bank, Sequatchie @ 5-0 Coalfield and Sequoyah at 5-0 Loudon.
Rhea County hosts Walker Valley on Friday night with most games still on with the worst of weather apparently behind us in the Southeast Tennessee area. This will be the opening region game for Rhea, and they will have homecoming festivities before the game. Coach Taylor Harvey will go up against the team he was on the sidelines for last year as Walker won over the Eagles. Coach Taylor did not want to make the focus on him for this game, but you can be sure there will be emotions for the former Mustang coach. After the tough loss at Cleveland last week, the Eagles had a couple of players banged up, but coach Harvey did not see any impact on the lineup for this week. Walker Valley and Eagles share a common foe in Cleveland. Walker owns wins over Notre Dame (54-22), Polk County(34-0), Bradley Central(28-7) and Ooltewah(35-0)(last week).Team has offensive firepower, plays hard and is well coached by Drew Akins. The Eagles come in with a 2-2 record and will celebrate homecoming before the game. Homecoming begins at 6;30 and the game begins at 7:00 pm.
Against Cleveland, Walker Valley found themselves down 22-0 early against Cleveland. Tate Roundtree and then a backward pass was scooped up and run in for touchdown by # 2 Burns to cut lead to 22-13. Dyszkeiewicz intercepted a screen pass and Spencer Makuch had a touchdown run to cut the lead to 22-20. DB Michal Wood then had a big interception late in the half and that was scored at halftime.
Field goal put Mustangs up early in second before Cleveland began an onslaught. The Blue Raiders scored 29 unanswered points, most in the 4th quarter in the win.
Some players to watch for Walker include: # 1 Spencer MaKuch, # 2 Aiden Burns db, 4 Dosem Stum QB , # 6 Roman Eulo, # 7 Javen Hall, # 8 Hudson Makuch, 11 Zeke Garrison, # 13 Mason Alexander, and # 73 Bryson Farely. Kicking for Mustangs will be Dillon True.
Coach Harvey said, "We’re not focusing on anything to do with me . This one is just another opponent and a big region game for us to reach our goals. Our guys have been working on handling a good opponent coming in here Friday night . We just have to treat it like the next game on the schedule."
"We had some guys banged up against Cleveland but we should be good to go this week against Walker Valley."
