Walden’s Ridge Quilt Club Creates Quilts For Veterans Day 2021

November 2021

Several Local Veterans Appreciate the Wonderful Gif As Community Says "Thanks"

Dayton, TN -- A local group of quilters continued their annual event around Veterans Day in November 2021. For several years, a group centered in Walden's Ridge, an area just west of Dayton off Highway 30, has knitted quilts and given those to local veterans for Veterans Day. Recently the COVID-19 epidemic has limited that ability. In the past, there would have benn a luncheon, with a speaker giving a patriotic speech, followed by the presenting of the quilts. Last year with COVID-19 in full swing, that tradition was interrupted. This year with COVID-19 numbers reducing, the quilts were given out, but decision was made not to have the luncheon, but quilts were distributed to veterans in the community.

These quilts were made by Glenda Ahrens, Betty Reeves, Donna Boyd, Melissa Foster, Charlotte Weller, Nancy Chadwick and Amy Keith. There are around 50 in the quilt and craft club with the youngest being 35 and the oldest being 90 years of age. This club has been doing this event since 2015 and the quilts are always appreciated by the veterans. Melissa Foster is the president of the group and they have a facebook page, where you can obtain more information about the club.
