Shirley Thompson Goins, age 88, fought a good fight, kept the faith, finished her course, and on January 8, 2025, received a crown of righteousness. She lived her life as a Proverbs 31 woman before all who knew her. Shirley was born on December 13, 1936, in Soddy, Tennessee and was a graduate of Soddy Daisy High School. She was married to the love of her life, John V. Goins, for 53 years before his passing. A member of the Sale Creek Church of God, she loved her church and her church family.
Shirley enjoyed shopping and vacationing with her family. She disliked taking naps, although pictures might prove otherwise. She loved red high heels, red lipstick and red nail polish. She loved clothes of any kind, but more than anything she loved Jesus, her Savior, and her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John V. Goins, parents, Floyd Lee and Ruth Burchard Thompson, daughter, Cathy Olinger, brothers, Floyd A and Gene Thompson, sister, Rachel Jones, grandson Jamie Goins, son-in-law, Larry Roddy, and daughter-in-law, Tammy Trautman Goins.
She is survived by sisters, Wilma Williams and Gaynell Lewis and brother, Larry Thompson. She is survived by her children, Johnny (Leslie) Goins, Deborah (Nick) Welch, Gaynelle Roddy, Michael Goins, Timothy Goins, and Jacqueline (Josh) McCullough. Also, grandchildren, Kimberly (Johnathan) Calbaugh, Sherri Goins, Heath Scoggins, Jason Scoggins, Nicolas (Coreen) Welch, Lindsey (Tyler) Laugherty, David (Belinda) Dotson, Jennifer (Jeremy) Morgan, Joshua (Teresa) Thomas, Allison (Ben) Herd, Amanda (Daniel) Levi, Jonathan Roddy, Crystal ( James) Garmany, Megan (Freddie) Locke, Gage (Erica) Goins, Chase Goins, Hiram Goins, Trenton (Chloe) Goins, Gavin McCullough, and many great and great- great grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Trenton Goins, Gavin McCullough, Issac Calbaugh, Brycen Levi, Braylon Pearson, and Tyler Goins.
Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton, Tennessee is serving the Goins family. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 13, 2025, from 12-2 with Pastor Terry Bolton officiating the memorial service at 2, burial will follow immediately after the service at the Spivey Cemetery. Friends and family members are welcome.
