Rhea Middls Wins Over Lady Spring City Middle in Athens Tournament

Athens, TN -- Rhea County Middle School came from behind with 7 run third inning to win 7-4 over Spring City Middle in a tournament game in Athens on Saturday, August 14, 2021. This was a low scoring contest early with Lady Bulldogs taking a 1-0 lad in the first inning as Liberty Swafford scored after singling. Natalee Hankins was on the mound for the Lady Bulldogs and went into third inning with 1-0 lead.

In the top of the third inning, Spring City addedd to their lead. The straight singles by Lady Bulldogs opened inning well. Natalee Hankins, Jenna Burchard, and Mia Swafford all singled to get on base and all three scored with Kailee Pelfrey getting a single and Jaslyn Buttler walking. Lady Bulldogs entered the bottom of the third with 4-1 lead.

Rhea Middle put first two runners on with Ava Varner and Presley Bradshaw on base when Brook Tallent hit a double. Kyanna Martin followed with triple and then Neylee Poole, Keeli Wilson and Ella Wilkey reached base. Ava Sanders had a double. The nexx two batters reached base with Ava Varner being hit by pitch and Presley Bradshaw walking before Spring City could get out of inning. Rhea Middle scored seven runs in the inning to take 7-4 lead, which was the final score. Neylee Pool took the win on the mound.
