Memphis, TN - 3/2/23

The most recent Olympic Development Program (ODP) event, the Interregional Showcase,
which was held in Memphis over President’s day weekend and players from Rhea County really
stood out.

This interregional event included teams from multiple regions in the US. In this case bringing
together teams from the Midwest and the South. With the best players from each state playing
against other state ODP teams. For this weekend teams came from eleven states including
Nebraska, Iowa, Mississippi, Arkansas, Ohio, Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Indiana, Alabama and
Tennessee to compete and be evaluated. College coaches come to observe players and the
ODP coaching staff is looking for standouts from each state.

Left to Right: Kloe Reeves, Zane Shaffer & Laurel Butt.

On the girls side Laurel Butt (2006 age group) and Kloe Reeves (2008 age group) both
represented Rhea County well with Laurel scoring three goals and Kloe, whose age group was
playing up a year, scored one goal which is a huge accomplishment. Both Laurel and Kloe
were identified as two of the best players from the region and were selected to play in a
“regional pool match”.

Afterwards Laurel talked about the pool game and said “the play was aggressive and very fast
paced. Everyone was very motivated because of the number pf scouts there. I am very
appreciative of my coaches Bret Boylan and Paul Shaw this season for pouring their
knowledge into me to help me learn my position throughout the past three months. I am very
grateful for the training I received.

On the boy’s side Zane Shaffer who plays with the 2011 age group (U12) also had a great
weekend scoring twice and getting four assists as his Tennessee team beat teams from Ohio
and Indiana while losing a close one to Illinois. There was no pool selection this year for
Zane’s age group
