Meigs Lady Tigers Beat Lady Eagles 53-24
Decatur, TN -- Rhea Middle basketball ran off to a 21-4 start and then survived a comeback by Meigs County to win 44-43 on Thursday, November 11, 2021. Mason Ford was hot early for Rhea with 10 of the Eagle's 21 first quarter points. Meigs began the comeback in the second quarter as they stopped the bleeding and made a modest dent into the Eagle lead with a 15-12 advantage in the second quarter with Blue Armour leading the way with 9 points.
Tuff Ricker and Brody Goins led the Tigers in the third quarter with 6 and 5 points respectively as Meigs won the quarter 12-4. The Tigers would also win the fourth quarter and concluded their comeback with a 40-39 lead with 2:43 left in the game. Eagles took the lead back, before Ricker made two free throws for a 42-42 tie. Free throws by McLendon and Ford gave the Eagles a 44-42 lead with 20 seconds remaining. Welch countered with Tiger free throw make for 44-43 Eagle margin with 15 seconds remaining. Eagles defense forced the Tigers to settle for long shot from top of the key that hit the front of the rim and bouned away. Eagles have survived in what was a very exciting second half.
Tuff Ricker(15), Brody Goins(11), and Blue Armour(9) led the Tiger offense. Mason Ford had 21 first half points on his way to a 26 points on the night. Aidan Wilkerson(6), Reece Pendergrass(5) and Austin Teffer(2) completed the scoring for Eagles.
In girls action, the Lady Tigers won 53-24. King led the Lady Tigers with 25 points and McHone(9), Smith(7) and Maddion(6) also led the Lady Tigers. For Rhea Middle, Kloe Reeves led the way with 12 points and Martin and Bishop added 4 points each. Bradshaw and Kelly added 3 and 2 points respectively. Meigs held a 19-6 advantage after one quarter and cruised to the win.
